Charity match confirmed

This year's charity game will be in aid of Sahir

Mersey Rose's 2024 charity match has been confirmed.

The hardball team will take on Rainbow Toffees (Everton FC's LGBTQ+ supporters' network) on Sunday 4th August in a match played in aid of Sahir.

Sahir is a Liverpool-based charity that "provides a safe environment for people questioning or exploring their sexuality and/or gender identity" and supports "people living with HIV, their families, carers, supporters and asylum and refugee communities".

Rainbow Toffees regularly play football but cricket is new territory for many of their players. In the spirit of cooperation, and because we always enjoy introducing people to playing cricket, Rainbow Toffees will be invited to train with us in July.

The annual charity game is a huge part of our club's identity and, in addition to using the game to raise money for our charity partner, we also aim to use the event to build interest in social, friendly cricket.

The event is being supported by The Googly Fund, which promotes friendly cricket. The Googly Fund has generously donated £175 towards the costs of running the game - including pitch hire and umpire/scorer's fees.

We are currently working with one of our partner clubs to confirm a venue and start time for the game.

The club is very grateful to Rainbow Toffees for the game, and especially to their patrons and supporters for promoting the event on social media. We are confident we will have an enjoyable day of cricket and hope to raise over £500 for Sahir.
